The PhD is intellectually demanding, advisor to develop the student’s ability to conduct research in a specialized field of education; student has the capacity to conduct research independently self-directed academic research, supported by a team of supervisors that makes an original contribution to knowledge written up in a thesis. Research degrees are the highest level of degree usually awarded by Universities. Successful completion of a PhD or professional doctorate allows the holder to title themselves “doctor.
